The University of Nevada, Las Vegas prepares you to become a highly adaptable design professional through in-depth training and practice of the core skills and foundations of UI, UX, and visual design.

Introductory Course

Learners will begin their journey into UI/UX with our 30-hour Introductory Course. This allows you to get a taste for the program, field, and curriculum style before signing up for the Extended Program. You’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of user experience, user interface, and visual design and popular UI/UX positions you might be interested in upon entering the field.

400 In-Class Hours

Stretched over the course of 8 to 10 months, the full program is 370-hours, beginning after you successfully complete the 30-hour Introductory Course. You’ll explore in-depth training surrounding major components of the UI/UX industry and become familiar with industry tools experts are using in the field.

30-Hour Introductory Course | 370-Hour Extended Program

Introductory Course

This course is the first in our curriculum and introduces you to the fundamentals of UI, UX, and graphic design as well as the responsibilities you can expect in these types of roles.

How to Think Like a Designer

Shape your perspective to think from a design perspective. Learners will explore important tools in the digital landscape, including virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), the Internet of Things (IoT), and how to implement digital design in physical spaces.

Visual Design Essentials

Explore design principles, including theories and history of design to better understand the fundamentals of visual design. In this course, you will learn Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.

UX Design Essentials

Explore the fundamentals of UX assets before learning how to successfully develop and create functional designs. Learners will use the information architecture structure to organize data when developing a digital asset.

Conducting Research

Learn how to successfully conduct market research and design methods you will use to develop products that meet user, market, and business needs. You will explore remote tools such as Miro, Otter.ai, and Zoom.

Ideating & Prototyping

This course teaches how to design sketches and paper prototypes that will then be converted into low- to mid-fidelity wireframes. This will help you learn how to quickly identify potential design opportunities and solutions.

Usability Testing

In this course, you will learn what usability tests are, what types are available when building web designs and programmings, how to set up testing, and how to successfully interpret the results.

High-Fidelity Design

Take what you learned about prototyping in order to develop a high-fidelity wireframe or prototype. Learners will explore the importance of visual elements like color, typography, images, and iconography when designing a visually appealing and engaging product.

Microinteraction

Explore the essentials of animation in design and how to utilize microinteractions in your work. You will explore when, where, and how best to use microinteractions and other digital transitions.

Team Project

This section of the curriculum allows learners to work in conjunction with each other to create a team project that can be included in their professional portfolio. This will help give you hands-on experience working with other designers on a team, which is a common aspect of most UI/UX careers.
